For many times now, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has proved its scholastic, administrative, research and academic performances over other universities and people see this university be the best university in Nigeria 2015.
When the list of best universities in Nigeria was screened this year, the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, said that its university (OAU) was selected as the best university in Nigeria, and this was made known through the most recent web-ranking of world universities conducted by the Cybermetrics Lab of Spain.
The Cybermetrics Lab of Spain is a researching company having a place with the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC), rumored to be the biggest open research group in the world according to a report on its official website.
Olarewaju also expressed that in the rankings, which was released in July this year, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, was evaluated as the best University in Nigeria, while the university of Lagos and Ilorin came second and third, respectively.
Responding to this development, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Bamitale Omole, supported the rankings, believes that there is more to come.
In 2014, OAU was among the top ten universities in Nigeria. He acknowledged the first position, which OAU has been maintaining for the past years, going neck to neck with the National Open University of Nigeria; to the hard work and commitment to duty of the academics from the officials and the specialized staff.
In addition, Professor Omole re-stressed his determination for the preparation and the re-training of staff, on constant basis every month, and counted this as his highest priority, concluding that he would not give up until Obafemi Awolowo University turns out to be the best university in Africa, and one of the top ten universities in the world.
In general, the students of OAU congratulated the staff and believe that this university can become the top ten universities in the world in 2-3 years from now.
