How to Apply For Admission in USA Universities From Nigeria

International students often underestimate the amount of time needed to apply for admission to a school or college in the United States. You can avoid this mistake by setting a schedule for yourself that starts in advance of the time that you plan to start your studies in any of the colleges in the USA.

When planning your timetable, always remember that starting the process early is the most ideal path for your study abroad. You should allow yourself enough time to fully research into the universities in the USA and/or program that will best serve your academic and professional objectives.

At that point you must meet the application deadlines of the universities in the USA to which you apply, which may be up to ten months prior to the start of the school term.

Especially for schools with competitive admissions, the application process takes a lot of time and hard work. You will need to write personal statements and solicit for recommendation from professors or other people who know you well. Regardless that you are applying online by means of the online application, you will need to start early.

University sites and other academic Internet websites may provide fast and easy access to the required application forms, but you still need time to research your available options, contact professors and foundations provide recommendations and transcripts, and sign up for required placement tests in time to meet application deadlines.

The plan should start at least 18 months before you wish to study, so you have to get started quickly! Obviously, if you don’t have that much time you can still make up for the lost time – however, the earlier the better!

Government Approved Tests

Generally, U.S. schools and colleges require that you take one or more standardized admission tests so that you can gain access into their programs. SAT, ACT, GRE, MCAT, LSAT, TOEFL, IELTS – These are the tests required that you take. You don’t have to take all, although the school you’re applying will advise on the one you need.

We can give you additional information about the different tests, but what you have to do to prepare for any of the tests will provided by the American Universities; such as University of Phoenix,  Kaplan university, Harvard University, New York University and other top colleges in the USA – just to mention a few from list of universities in USA.

For students getting ready to apply to universities, you have various websites like Test prep practice that can offer test preparation advice and free preparation tests to help you get ready for any government standardized tests you have to take.

Credential Evaluations

School curriculum program varies by country, not only in language, but also in verbal practice. Many schools accepting student from different countries like Nigeria, require the official status of your school and need to verify the authenticity of credentials. This is the place credential evaluators come in. Your school may require you to submit transcripts to a qualified evaluator (an example is WES) who will exam your credentials and make an interpretation of the credential into your host country’s curriculum for review.
